In 2018, Volkswagen embarked on a multi-year sports partnership with Team USA Soccer, encompassing the US men’s, women’s, and youth teams. The iconic car manufacturer needed an umbrella platform that could span the partnership. Around the world, soccer is seen as the people’s sport as it sets an equal playing field for everyone. In the US, however, it’s not. From massive pay gaps across the men’s and women’s teams to pay-to-play barriers among youth players that cause underprivileged kids to miss out. As a response, we launched the “One Goal” platform and initiative to promote equality in soccer at every level. VW, the people’s car, would do its part in making soccer the people’s sport in the US.
